The Aftermath!

So this past weekend saw us play the first round matches of the Starcraft League. The event was held during the LAN party that took place at McVeigh’s over the weekend. It was a bit of a hustle getting Starcraft time in the middle of COD4 mayhem but we did manage to play our games.

The reception was fantastic and several players signed up as Starcraft games were starting!! Kudos to the first timers who tried (and loved) Starcraft.

The Matches
All the matches were played on Heart Break Ridge and were a best-of-three series of games.

mosh Vs mr_hyde – this one was a bit of a one-sided affair with mosh pretty much dominating the match up. Note that these two players met at the WCG Kenya preliminaries. The results were no different from what happened at the WCG, mosh ran away with a 2-0 win with the first game finished within four minutes thanks to a Zergling rush.

KArtel Vs JuGG3RNOt – both of these players are relatively very new to Starcraft, with KArtel’s first match ever beign the first one of these series. The games were slow and seemed clumsy but exciting to watch what new players do in Starcraft. JuGG3RNOt started out the stronger of the two and won the first game but KArtel came back strongly and beat JuGG3RNOt in the next two games thanks to a lot of coaching by Psyko Fero, the current Kenyan Starcraft champion. KArtel won 2-1.

Psyko Vs McVeigh – the big match! Both McVeigh and Psyko are experienced plays and they both play Protoss with a strikingly similar style of play. The games in this match were fast and furious and low-economy with both games played out with nothing but Zealots. The first game was quickly taken by Psyko after a rush that caught McVeigh unprepared. The second game, however, was a classic. Both players hit each other hard with Zealots, and eventually Dark Templar.

Psyko Vs McVeigh

Psyko brilliantly blocking his choke

McVeigh battled hard to bring the series to 1-1 but, alas, Psyko was brilliant on the day. He pulled of a stunning move that saw him block his choke (entry to his base) with two Dark Templar and denied McVeigh what was a sure win. The match ended 2-0 for Psyko. Kudos to the local Starcraft champion, Psyko.
